My friend is giving me his old car that has been sitting out of commission for awhile. He had taken it off the road when he had problems with the transmission. His brother was driving it and heard a pop and snapping sound and then the car would not move. The clutch pedal pushes in and pushes back, and the car shifter will move into position for the different gears, but the car will not move. I am trying to see if the car is worth my time for me to try and repair.
I have a 2005 Nissan Altima 3.5 180,000 miles. stopped at a traffic light light turned green and car will not move. Engine still running, revs fine tires do not turn. Car will not shift into park unless turned off, makes a grinding sound. No banging, noise or shifting difficulties previously. No fluid leaking, with car running transmission fluid is good. How do I self diagnose transmission without a scan tool? Is this an electrical issue?
